We’ve discussed previously our ability to offer a variety of operating system templates quickly and efficiently. That ability also extends to not only the operating system but to having a variety of applications installed. We’re happy to announce we’ve made five OpenLiteSpeed template options available.
At Hawk Host, we utilize Litespeed for all our web hosting plans and also offer Litespeed licenses to all our cloud compute instances. We understand that not everyone needs the advanced features of Litespeed Enterprise, such as its advanced Apache support, including full .htaccess support and optimized mod_security engine. OpenLiteSpeed is the open source alternative to Litespeed, offering most of the performance enhancements, including Litespeed page caching support. We now provide Ubuntu with OpenLiteSpeed installed, but it does not end there. We currently have five different options that also pre-configure your server for various popular applications.
Our Ubuntu OpenLiteSpeed WordPress image automatically installs and configures everything you need for a performant WordPress installation. That includes the following software:
The first time logging into your server, either through SSH or our VNC console, you will be asked various questions. Once completed, your server will be configured for your domain, and WordPress will be installed.
Our Ubuntu OpenLiteSpeed Joomla image works exactly like our WordPress image, with OpenLiteSpeed, MariaDB, Redis, Memcached, Certbot, and phpMyAdmin pre-installed and configured. Unlike our WordPress image, though, when you first log into your server, you’ll be assisted with configuring a Joomla installation.
OpenLiteSpeed isn’t exclusively for PHP-based applications like WordPress; it also includes the capability to operate many popular languages and associated web frameworks. We offer the ability to have OpenLiteSpeed configured to manage a Node.js application. Like the WordPress option, you’ll be asked various questions to set up your first Node.js application. Node.js is more involved than setting up a WordPress website, as you’ll still need to upload your application, but it will save you time configuring your server.
We also offer an OpenLiteSpeed image similar to Node.js, in which we’ll configure everything to get your Ruby on Rails application up and running quickly. With a thriving community and numerous applications, it only makes sense that there would also be a Ruby on Rails quick setup option.
Now, this may surprise some, but in addition to Ruby on Rails and Node.js, there is also a Django option. Django is a popular Python based web framework, and our OpenLiteSpeed Django template automatically helps you configure everything to launch your Django application. If you currently have a Django application, our template could be a great option. If you were looking to learn and didn’t want to learn locally, you can use our OpenLiteSpeed image even on our smallest cloud compute, which is just $5/month.
We’re currently evaluating additional operating systems, control panels, and applications. If you have any suggestions on what you’d like to see, please contact us.
