mailcow Now Available for Cloud Computes

Operating your own personal or business email can be expensive or daunting. You’re at the mercy of your email provider for not only prices that are exponentially going up, but also, there are concerns about the privacy of your email. We’ve offered a variety of control panels, such as cPanel, DirectAdmin, and Webuzo, that offer an email component. We are, however, happy to announce that we now offer easy one-click installation of the popular open-source mail server suite mailcow.

We’ve had many inquiries about hosting email on our cloud compute platform. In the past, many have chosen to use cPanel or DirectAdmin to regain control of their email. Email, however, is a secondary product compared to the main component of hosting websites. mailcow is an open-source mail suite dedicated to hosting email. It is very easy to install, but we wanted to provide an even easier way to jump right into hosting your email on your own cloud compute.

mailcow is a Dockerized open source groupware/email suite. The installation installs everything you need to set up your own mailSuite on your server. That includes items like:

• ACME - Automatic Let’s Encrypt certificates
• Dovecot - Popular IMAP/POP email server with full text search powered by Flatcurve
• Postfix - Mail transfer agent for email traffic
• Rspamd - Spam filter with automatic learning of spam emails
• SOGo - Integrated webmail with Cal/Cardav interface
• Powerful Management GUI

The mailcow UI lets you configure almost all administrative tasks through a simple-to-use GUI. That includes all of the following:

• DKIM and ARC configuration
• Adding domains and creating email inboxes
• Black whitelist control on a per-domain and per-user basis
• Spam score management per user
• imapsync to periodically migrate or retrieve remote mailboxes
• Multifactor authentication using YubiKey OTP, WebAuthn USB, or TOTP
• Quarantine system
• Basic monitoring
• And much more

Of course, we always recommend you have an experienced system administrator, but for many use cases, mailcow’s combination of using familiar mail software and Docker simplifies the experience. If you’re not yet comfortable with the idea of mailcow but are still looking to move your email to a server you control without per-user inbox pricing, cPanel, DirectAdmin, and Webuzo are still excellent paid solutions.
