As I mentioned a month ago we were moving our DNS systems more in house as we now have the luxury of using multiple data centers where we host our web and VPS servers. It only made sense for us to bring for us to bring this in house to not use as much bandwidth in syncing zones and also speed everything up quite significantly. On Friday I had planned on migrating NS2 and syncing it up and having it become part of the cluster then announce this on the weekend. Well I got caught up in other things so I ended up starting the syncing just a few hours ago. I’ve now realized we’ve had a lot of domains go through our system and it’s a lot more than I had thought.
Right now we have about 15,000 domains in the cluster and the number is rising a bit as I guess some domains managed to stay on one of the machines in our cluster so all our dns systems will have them as a result. It’s scary just how many domains we actually do host, now I have no doubt a lot of them are no longer hosted by us and just somehow are still in the system. But still, that is 15,000 domains that have passed through our cluster since it was started just after opening.
I don’t see us abandoning the cluster any time soon. It makes our lives much easier and makes migrations between servers significantly.
Well that’s all I have for now I just figured I’d post about it as the new NS2 has been syncing up for 4+ hours now and I don’t think it’s going to be finished any time soon. Except a news post about the new IP’s of the NS2 on Sunday hopefully!
