Let's Encrypt Unable to Issue More Than 100 Domains on a Certificate

Let’s Encrypt allows a maximum of 100 domains to be secured on a single certificate. This limitation is typically not an issue, as cPanel enables you to create domains with distinct document roots. When reaching the 100-domain limit, a new certificate is automatically created for additional domains.

The limitation becomes an issue when you park multiple domains on a single document root (such as your public_html folder). In this scenario, you are limited to a maximum of 100 domains before our AutoSSL system cannot issue further certificates.

When you attempt to add domains beyond 100, the AutoSSL system will display the following error:

WARN Provider's per-certificate domain count limit: 100
WARN "Let's Encrypt" cannot secure all of "youraccount.com"'s domains. Remove domains from "youraccount.com" to fix this.

This is a limitation of Let’s Encrypt and free SSL certificates that cannot be overridden. Our recommendations are:

  • Stay within 100 domains parked in a single location if they all require valid SSL certificates.
  • Use individual redirects — If all domains display identical content, redirect them to the desired primary domain. This avoids both the certificate limitation and duplicate content issues for SEO.
