My Website Is Down. What Should I Do?

If you are unable to reach your site, there are a number of steps you can take to determine whether the site is actually offline or if the issue is specific to your connection.

  1. Test through a proxy — Visit your site through a web proxy (a quick search should find a suitable one) to determine if it is a routing issue specific to your ISP or network.

  2. Try a different browser — Visit the site in another browser or clear your local browser cache to rule out cached errors.

  3. Ask someone else to check — Have a friend, colleague, or associate on a different network try to visit the site. Compare their results to yours.

  4. Check the Hawk Host status page — Visit our status website at https://www.hawkhoststatus.com. Every issue, maintenance window, or service-impacting problem is posted there.

  5. Verify DNS is correct — If you recently changed nameservers, DNS propagation may still be in progress. See I’ve changed my nameservers, but my site is still down for more information.

If you have exhausted the above steps and still believe your site is offline as the result of a server issue, please submit a ticket at https://my.hawkhost.com/submitticket.php.
