How to import a site created with WordPress Studio

WordPress Studio is an agentic local development tool for WordPress that lets you export your completed site for production deployment. The default format does not contain a complete WordPress installation, but only the wp-content folder, a database backup, and a meta.json file with details such as the PHP version.

  1. Install WordPress using WordPress Management in cPanel

  2. Upload the WordPress Studio export zip file to your account using cPanel’s File Manager or FTP

  3. Extract the zip file to a temporary directory

  4. Copy the wp-config.php database details from the WordPress installation you just created

  5. Empty the database using phpMyAdmin or delete and create a new database with the same name through cPanel’s Databases page

  6. Import the database backup using phpMyAdmin or the command line

    mysql -u username -p database_name < backup.sql

Replace username and database_name with your actual database credentials from the wp-config.php file.

  7. Update wp-config.php to reflect the prefix used in the backup.sql file or from the WordPress Studio wp-config.php file

  8. Copy the wp-content folder from the extracted zip file to your WordPress installation

    cp -rT wp-content /path/to/wordpress/
  9. Update the site URL in the database to match your production domain

    Terminal window
    wp search-replace 'dev.local' 'yourdomain.com'
